Master Lee Ki was born in 1848 in Gimje, North Jeolla Province, and succeeded the academic lineage of practical learning from Bangye Yu Hyeong-won and Dasan Jeong Yak-yong.
He was later known as one of the Three Masters of Honam along with Hwang Hyeon and Lee Jeong-jik. As an anti-Japanese independence activist, he participated in the assassination plot against the Eulsa Five Traitors. As an enlightenment activist, he taught at Hanseong Academy School. As the first member of Yangji Amun (now the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport), he laid the foundation for modern mapping by surveying the Mankyeong Plain and parts of Asan City.

Despite being a figure who made significant contributions to Korea's modern history, Master Haehak Lee Ki was undervalued for a long time. However, in 2003, his birthplace was designated as a Jeollabuk-do Monument, and in 2007, it was restored to its current thatched-roof cottage form.
This content was developed with the concept of promoting Master Haehak Lee Ki's achievements and virtually recreating his birthplace, which is difficult to visit in person, allowing users to meet Master Lee Ki.
